Songs For My Wake
Funeral songs seem to be making a buzz lately.
A while ago, spurred by an offhand comment by my friend Robben and an overwhelming desire for control - even from beyond the grave - I made a whole CD to be played at my wake.
To wit:

He's Dead Jim - DeForrest Kelley
Exit Music For A Film - Brad Mehldau
I'm In Heaven Now - American Music Club
Heaven - Jimmy Scott
It Sounds Great When You're Dead - Robyn Hitchcock
Pink Frost - The Chills
Death & The Maiden - The Verlaines
Death Of A Disco Dancer - The Smiths
A Dead Song - Birthday Party
Strangers Die Everyday - Butthole Surfers
Children Of The Grave - Black Sabbath
Fin - Pavement
Freddie's Dead - Curtis Mayfield
Oh Death - Camper Van Beethoven
100 Years From Now - The Byrds
Take Care - Big Star
(Don't Fear) The Reaper - Blue Öyster Cult
What Is Soul? - Funkadelic
The Golden Road To Unlimited Devotion - Grateful Dead
Exit Music For A Film - Radiohead

Cool. I think I might just have In Heaven, Everything Is Fine from the movie Eraserhead play once, and then a line from Robin Williams' first album - Reality, What A Concept - where he says, "You kids get out of here, you make the pages stick together."
Funny, I just listened to that Camper Van tune "Oh, Death". Nice List.
I guess "My Way" is on the top of the funeral charts these days. I just read that in Mojo whilst eating a Subway.
D'oh!
Looks like I missed reading that link the first time through.
