Take that Jeremy

Okay, Steve! Let's take look...
(Steve on top)

Animals-Talking Heads
vs.
Adelaide - Old 97's
===
A classic Heads' song from arguably their greatest album against a forgettable outing from the Old 97s. Advantage Steve.

Time-Pink Floyd
vs.
Erotica - Rita
===
A (WAY) overplayed classic from Pink Floyd against some kind of obscure funk music with a VERY aroused French lady moaning above the music. Advantage Jeremy.

The Road-Jackson Brown
vs.
Heart Association Spot - The McCoy's
===
Tough one. I'm no fan of Browne's, though he does turn out a great son now and again ("Somebody's Baby", "These Days"). The McCoys number is a PSA (public service announcement) radio spot they did, back in the day. Advantage Steve.

Lip Service(live from El Mocambo)-Elvis Costello
vs.
Pli de perversion - Denis Dufour
===
Again, a tough one. Classic Elvis C. live against some very cool French avant-garde musique concrete. I call this one debatably a Draw.

Stay Hungry(live, TNOTBITH)-Talking Heads
vs.
Drive To Glory - 40 Years Of NFL Films Music
===
I suppose you could only call this one a win for me if you're as fond of the NFL films' music as I am. Advantage Steve.

Eyes of the World-Grateful Dead(Madison 73!!!)
vs.
Sweet Smell - Eleventh Dream Day
===
Even though this is my favorite Dead period (mostly before the deceased post-Pigpen keyboardists took them down the accursed path of jazz noodling and certainly before Uncle Jerry's unfortunate death dance with the Afghani Dragon), I've got to go with the aggro guitar scorch of EDD. Besides, they once recorded a great song called "Bomb The Mars Hotel" which has GOT to be a sign or something. Advantage Jeremy.

The Night they Drove old Dixie Down-The Band, Last Waltz
vs.
Twelve Minus - The Cassettes
===
Alright, now listen. I LOVE The Band and think that their first two albums are priceless and perfect. Except this song. And I think this live version is particularly weak, the work of some tired musicians who were largely playing out the string at this point. The Cassettes are a newish band I don't know much about, but I'm liking what I hear a lot. This song isn't a particularly jarring transition from the EDD above. Advantage Jeremy.

Capital Radio(Live)-The Clash
vs.
Robin's Theme - Sun Ra and the Blues Project
===
Again, a tough one. Even though the Sun Ra is some awesome quickie Walgreen's exploitation rekkid stuff, The Clash are just, well, THE CLASH! Advantage Steve.

Funky Hayride - Stickmen
vs.
Good Company-Queen
===
Some good New York style funk-sput by a band I don't know much else about (think James Chance with Bad Mutha Goose and The Brothers Grimm) vs. a camp-hip favored band. I don't know the Queen song, but if it's not from the first three or four LPs, my guess is it's Advantage Jeremy.

Sweet Music - Aces/Desmond Dekker
vs.
She's Leaving the Bank(Paris Texas)-Ry Cooder
===
Really, how can you vote against (recently deceased) Desmond Dekker?
Advantage Jeremy.

Final tally:
Jeremy - 5
Steve - 4
tie - 1

What do you guys think?

Okay, I don't actually have an i-pod, but I did make a sort-of-rock'n'roll lullaby CD for Sebastian, who now has a CD player/boombox of his own in his room. He listens to it pretty much every night as he's going to sleep. Let me know if you want me to send you a copy.
