A Blessing Upon The Ground

blessing.jpgNot!

Yesterday, driving home in the sunshine and admiring how our recent spell of warmish & sunny weather had done away with the three-inch covering of frozen slush that had transformed the alley behind the house into an evil tank proving ground that I entertained Whit with by driving rollicking and recklessly through (with running commentary), I thought about writing an entry here about how that wanton bitch Winter was finally freeing us from her bony icy grasp.

Good thing I didn't, huh?

I woke up this morning to a steady fall of big white flakes of some heavy and rare (for this side of Lake Michigan) lake-effect snow.

You probably can't make the flakes out in the pic I snapped of a woodpecker at the suet feeder just outside our front window, but believe me - it's there.

And it's making me mighty sad.

C'mon, guy (or gal or committee, whatever) in charge of the weather - give us a frickin' break!

It's so true, I've lost all patience with winter this year. I usually have a pretty good perspective about these things, being a lifelong Minnesotan/Wisconsinite. I rarely complain about the weather, and regularly embrace all of its extremes here.

But this winter? I'M GOING FUCKING INSANE.

Surely I'm not the only one who thought of this comparison? was the previous entry in this blog.

I was away for a while, and what do I talk about when I get back? is the next entry in this blog.
