(For those unfamiliar with our body of work, an early Skeds song, released on the stellar "Dickcheese Sandwich Please" cassette, was entitled "Things I've Done Before (I'll Do Again)". It was NOT a song about serial killing - at least I don't think so.)
Dane-
If my kids are sadly mistaken in this way, I'm sure review of our live performances and our recorded output (at least while I was in the band) will quickly set them straight.
Dave (my former bandmate in Skeds, for those keeping track at home)-
I dunno if you're sadly mistaken, but I refer you to a drunken conversation we had a chili cookoff at Grumpy's in SE Mpls., many years after I left the band (but before, I think, the ultimate [for now, anyway :)] demise of the band).
(from memory, which may have been affected by the beer)
Dave: You know, we really missed you in the band.
Me: Dave, you hated me in the band! I couldn't sing, I never tuned my guitar and I never bothered to learn songs very well.
I am, however, a rock star in personality, charisma and style... :P
Do I think my kids will think I'm cool? Maybe for right now, when they're still pretty impressionable, but I'm thinking that once they enter adolescence (and form bands of their own, I hope) that they'll be vaguely embarassed by the spectacle of their old man as a 'performer'.
Or maybe that's just more of that self-deprecating wit that made me so endearing as a rock star...:)
Well, I never thought my dad was cool until I found out he once rode a suicide-shift Harley!! Fixed it up and rebuilt it from scratch. Damn - that was cool when I found out.
As far as cool goes...good times were had, anthemic songs were written (Wisconsin, Merkins, even your postcards were rock-worthy), good friends made, beers and other substances consumed...um, where was I going with this?..oh, yeah -- a few off notes and de-tuned guitars were part of our charm. It wasn't just you, btw. Rock star!
i return to discover that at least part of you is on myspace! reunited and it feels so good... everyone's on myspace, including meat puppets and the embarrassment!
I guess the things you've done before, you'll do again.
Could it be that someday your kids might think you were cool once upon a time?
Crispy -
Ha!

They're pretty sharp, you know.
Jeremy
I converted a few songs off the Jive Job cassette and posted them on myspace for your downloading pleasure...including titles previously mentioned.
Does that mean I'm sadly mistaken too?? You mean your not?
