i did a paper on langston hughes for an african-americans in the 20th century class. i focused on the freedom of expression he came to know during the harlem renaissance and contrasted that with later life as he visited russia and endured accusations of communism...i quoted a lot of different works but i somehow, somehow missed that one. i wish i'd had it then--it illustrates perfectly, beautifully, the america that could be and that only marginally ever was, against the illusion of the america that "is"...good poem; thank you. there are few more fascinating lives than langston hughes'...
