It's a gorgeous fall day in Milwaukee, and I took advantage of a little offsite meeting to drive back through the countyside, letting my mind wander.
I was reminded that driving aimlessly with the stereo on was something I used to do all of the time in college.
In fact, after voting for the first time ever (Bush-Dukakis, I think), I drove off into the countryside with my friend Martha (who was my frequent companion for those car rides) and ended up having a cup of coffee and a doughnut in some small-town Wisconsin diner. Even if I was looking at four years of Republican rule, all seemed right with the world.
I don't think there's a cup of coffee and a donut in the universe that are good enough to make that happen again.
