Lately, I've been involved in discussions that have involved a central question as to how important various forms of media and art are. I started out thinking that, of the visual arts (loosely including sculpture, painting, printmaking and photography and filmmaking - without considering things like video, performance art and whatnot too much), graphic design moved me the least.

I've been swayed from that opinion - while graphic design doesn't reach out and grab me the way, say, the photography of Robert Frank does, there are a couple of designers whose work continually informs my life in subtle ways - guys like Milton Glaser and Saul Bass.
