I came across this sorta by accident, while looking for info on another Minneapolis band from my formative years (anyone got the goods on The Suburbs?), and it led me into a reverie.
I don't know that anybody I talk to on a daily basis right now feels the same way about The Replacements that I do, but in the 1980s, they were almost my life - a feeling I've never had about a band since.
I have a tape of the on-air obit for Bob Stinson from Danny Bonaduce's afternoon radio show in Chicago - taped while sitting at the same desk I heard about Kurt Cobain's suicide - and it sends chills up and down my spine like it did when I heard it. Finding the outpouring of emotion over the event in archival form on the web is weird, to say the least.
I'd love to be able to supply a pithy, all-enlosing end here, but I can't. I think I'll go home and dig up some 'Mats bootlegs...
