Friday, using the comment/feedback feature of the Senator's website, I forwarded a comment sharply criticizing the Senator's recent affirmative vote on the resolution disapproving of MoveOn.org's recent ad about General Petraeus.
This morning, I received an email in reply:
September 21, 2007
Mr. Jeremy Saperstein
[address redacted]
Dear Mr. Saperstein:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding your concerns
with the MoveOn.org ad critical of General David Petreaus. As you know, the independent MoveOn.org group sponsored an ad in
the New York Times critical of General David Petreaus and his report on the war
in Iraq. Several prominent members of Congress have criticized the ads, citing
its unfair attack on the character and personal integrity of General Petreaus.Recently, the Senate voted on two amendments by Senator Barbara
Boxer (D-CA) and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), both of which reaffirmed the
Senate's support for men and women in the Armed Forces and condemned
attacks on the honor, integrity and patriotism of those who have served
honorably. I agree that the ads were inappropriate, and I do not approve of
calling into question the patriotism of the General. I have nothing but respect
for him, and I find this personal attack distasteful.
Sincerely,
Herb Kohl
U.S. Senator
I've responded:
Dear Senator Kohl -
Regarding 'condemn(ing)attacks on the honor, integrity and patriotism of those who have served honorably', my apologies, I had no idea that you had strongly repudiated the recent attacks on the honor, integrity and patriotism of folks like your own colleagues Senator John Kerry and former Senator Max Cleland.
Oh, wait, is that because you didn't?
Senator, the unbridled hypocrisy of the other side of the aisle irritates
me above and beyond all of the other facets of the current administration
and their toadies.I am greatly saddened that my own Senator appears to have joined the ranks
of those toadies and sycophants.Shame on you, Senator Kohl.
Respectfully,
Jeremy Saperstein
See you guys in the gulag.

God it's so OBVIOUS sometimes why you're my hero. *Sniff*
You won't think that when we're in the gulag together and I sell out your ass for some extra rations...
:)
Oh no, we (fellow skinny prisoners) will have eaten you LONG before then.
Ah, madam....you forget that people of my general build are eternally hyper-aware of the slimmer ones immediate thoughts of us a potential food source in times of crisis, and therefore are already planning how to oust you, "Big Brother"-stylee, from the general population as quickly as possible.
Besides, this is Wisconsin, and I'm certain us fatties will outnumber you skinnies by a sizable margin...
