There is nothing before me but thing.

The Family. (c)2005 Jeremy's DadYeah, it's been a while. Again. I know.

But listen, it wasn't my fault. There was a fire, a flood, a plague of locusts, a typhoon, a car crash. Whatever. It WASN'T my fault! Just please don't kill us...

OK, wait a sec. Not all of that happened, it's true, but when you get started making excuses, the tendency is to take it all the way.

The biggest (and best) reason is to the left: the newest addition to the Saperberger clan, Celia Alice, pictured here with Mom Dad and big brother Whit. She was born a little more than a month ago, on the 7th of June and she and Mom are doing swell, thanks.

Whit loves his little sister very much, but gets a little upset that he's not the sole focus of grown-up attention in the house - I'm happy to entertain suggestions on dealing with sibling rivalry if you got 'em.

A happy, happy thing! Such a good-lookin' family.

I'm curious about that t-shirt you have on.

Sir!

VERY glad to see you here after your little personal excitement in the last few days.

The T-shirt is from the phenomenal Hoboken indie band Yo La Tengo, purchased at a show here in Milwaukee some years ago. I think I had been wearing it for the previous two days. I was kind of skanky, to say the least.

You're bathing every two days now? I'm impressed.

Whether I need it or not, man.

Welcome back, man! We've missed you!

Inquiring minds want to know - how much crazier is it with two?

I've seen a book that says that first-born children with siblings tend to be about a full IQ point smarter than only children. The reasons for this are necessarily somewhat speculative, but I tend to believe that getting all that attention for the first couple of years is very important, as is learning to be more independent and responsible when the second one arrives. I've got no advice on the sibling rivalry thing, however.

Oh, by the way - I have a new job, after a year and a half of being semi-employed. And my resumee on Monster has been generating a few hits since then, too. Maybe the economy really is finally turning the corner.

And also, some places really are better to work at than others, for a lot of different reasons.

Robben!

In some ways, it's possible a little LESS crazier, sine with #2, you're a little more of an 'old hand' and tend to be less worried that you'll permanently warp or break the infant.

On the other hand, there are times when both kids are yowling at the same time, and both of us aren't around - trying to deal with two upsets simultaneously is already a little challenging but with only one person it's nigh impossible.

We'll see if Celia will prove to be smarter than Whit - my guess is that, being a girl, she might prove to be a little better student, but Whit is already a pretty smart cookie.

J.
