Last night, I saw Jay Farrar with Brian Henneman (of the Bottle Rockets) opening. What can I say? I liked the show more than a fair amount, but, as has been pointed out, I like pretty near everything. The real praise comes from my companions Lynn, Greg and Greg, who each uttered a sort of awed praise for both performers after the show. Brian Henneman promised a February release for a Bottle Rockets collection of Doug Sahm covers (!), to be followed by a proper new album, while Jay Farrar was particularly outgoing, giving the audience lengthy between-song rambles talking about childhood pets, his arguments with the phone company and a painfully infected pimple.
(Okay, I’m just kidding about all of that, but I actually saw him smile at one point and he did seem to be having a good time while effortlessly delivering some great songs, old and new…)
Also: According to Pitchfork, Mission Of Burma are reuniting for at least two shows!
Cable modem broken, and now I’m just swimming in shit.

Courtesy of a coworker, I’m listening to (and greatly enjoying) Hank Williams III. I’m not a particularly big fan of his dad’s music, but, goddamn it,
he sounds (and looks – a little chillingly) more like his grandfather – if his grandfather had spent lots of time hanging out
with the new country purist turks and had ever made a record where he felt obligated to offer up thanks to Dale Crover of the Melvins.
Megabonus points for covering “Cocaine Blues” (popularized by Johnny Cash) and making me think of Sr. fronting someone like, say, Jason & The Scorchers.
Man, I’m liking this record!
Seems like it’s about time to hibernate.
Greg offers a wonderful Thanksgiving idea.
