Listening:
Meat Puppets II, one of a bejillion great records released in 1984 that I still listen to (The Replacements’ Let It Be, The Minutemen’s Double Nickels On The Dime and Hüsker Dü’s Zen Arcadeare some others released in that shining year). My friend Jim thought it was out of tune the first time he heard it, and maybe Curt Kirkwood’s singing is a little, er, off, but it all makes sense to me.
| After a restless night spent dreaming odd dreams about being back in the band and moving my recalcitrant washer up north, where it leaked as if to start its own ocean, I woke up realizing I owed you faithful readers an update: after ten-plus loads, the washer has remained leak-free! I’ve still got all of the bolts removed, though, so I can get elbows-deep in a flash if I need to…
As far as I know, I’m still not back in the band. I’m keeping my phone line open, though – we were big in Italy and the Benelux countries! The time is ripe for a reunion! Or maybe not. |
Exhausted now, after Fran and Robert’s wedding (and my toast delivery there) and Lesley and Matt’s visit for that (and just to hang out). Exhausted like when I was a microkid and living in an apartment complex with a pool and my summer days were spent straining the limitless energy that age offers, swimming and riding my bike endlessly and shirtlessly around the garages. I feel rode hard and put up wet, a little burned around the edges, but, darn it, I feel good.
While I should have been pumping out cover letters, I put some of my writing up here. No backs.
A while ago, I linked to 78rpm record labels. Now, this:NoRelevance – 45 rpm Record Label Design.

Fran and Robert are getting married this Friday, and have asked me to offer a toast. I decided to build a PowerPoint presentation of my toast.
Listening:
Today’s song (for hopefully obvious reasons) is “Five Years” from David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, going through my head like there’s no tomorrow.
